Hey, I’m Jarred

Welcome to my world, in other words a bit more information about me. A bit of who I am or at least where I have been and what I am doing.

I kind of fell into it.

Very quickly I found myself in Noosa shooting my first celebrity wedding when I was 20. I won some awards and that didn’t feel as good as I thought it was. Within a few years I had packed up everything and moved to QLD, after receiving an offer to work for my favourite photographer and idol at the time. That was fire, but when I say that I mean it was a deeply refining and difficult time for me. I was thrust into the most prominent weddings in Australia and my idol was a tough boss to please. But I am grateful because I learnt techniques and knowledge that still are completely inaccessible and ‘gatekept’ information.

Anyway, life went on.

Personal tragedy struck, some existential realisations and I found some dark places eventually alone in London.

Covid brought about some more misery but digging into my life and past became a defining turn in my work.

Art became my priority, as a philosophy and a way to be in life. I loosened up my style and focused on breaking all the rules I learnt over the last 12 years of my career and getting to the essence of why I even take photos in the first place.

Why do I do this?

I’m not just a wedding photographer. I am a working photographer, a lover and an artist.

I often say that I am a photographer who shoots weddings because of what they represent, I guess the title of a wedding photographer can conjure up ideas, but I think that there are a lot of negative connotations attached to it. I don’t do it as a transactional way to make money, it’s what I want to do, and like any artistic venture, the cost associated is so I can continue doing the work.

Below are some of the personal stories I have been working on more recently.
